Building a solar cooker is becoming the new fad for camping and outdoor activities. It allows you to interact with others and enjoy the outdoors the way they were meant to be. Now you can forego bringing along an energy waster of an actual cooker and use the energy that goes unused every day. By using the sun rays to heat the food, you can make better use of the energy already supplied in the outdoors.
As oppose to bringing along a big grill or oven of some sort, having a solar cooker is a convenient way to warm and cook food in the outdoors. There are very few items that are required to build solar cookers and it is a simple process. It can be built rather quickly, but what’s the rush when you’re enjoying the outdoors.
When many people think of building their own solar cookers, the thought of a number of different items comes into their heads. However, there really is only five items that are required to build solar cookers. The first item that you will need is two open-faced cardboard boxes. The size of the boxes will depend on how big of a cooker you want. The reason you need to boxes is for one smaller box to be placed inside the bigger box.
The second item you need to build a solar cooker is an additional piece of cardboard to serve as the lid. For this additional piece, you will want it to be at lease a few inches longer than the other cardboard to ensure that the entire surface gets covered. The next item is a can of black spray paint that is non-toxic when dry. The reason it is vital that it is non-toxic is so that the paint will not be dangerous to you by contaminating any food you prepare.
In order to keep the lid and reflector that you build on sturdy, you will need at least eight ounces of glue or some thick tape to hold them together. As with the paint, it is vital that you get non-toxic glue. The last item you will need to get to build your own solar cooker is an oven cooking bag. Most oven cooking bags are designed to be able to withstand temperatures of up to four-hundred degrees Fahrenheit. As you use the bags, they will need to be replaced regularly.
As you can see, there are very little materials that are needed to build a solar cooker. This makes it convenient and easy to transport the materials needed to build your solar cooker while camping in the outdoors. Building solar cookers can also be an enjoyable activity to do with the family in the mountains.
